EDC3100 tasks

This week as part of our learning path activity for EDC3100 we were asked to ‘fill in the blanks’ for the following paragraph. Below I have placed my answers in the blanks using Bold.

The questions that parents face as they raise children from infant to adult are not easy to answer. Both fathers and mothers can become concerned when health problems such as common colds arise anytime after the early stage to later life. Experts recommend that young children should have plenty of sleep and nutritious food for healthy growth. Boys and girls should not share the same bed or even be in the same room. They may be afraid of the dark.

After I had submitted my attempt to fill in the blanks, I was able to see how everyone else had filled in their blanks. I wasn’t at all that surprised that our answers were all very similar. I think that it is because we are all studying the same course, so it is obvious to me that we all have the same love and passion for teaching children. Therefore when we were filling in the blanks we had already had a misconceived thought in our minds that the paragraph would be about children.

Doing this small activity has reminded me of one of my practical placements working in a prep room. I would read stories to the children almost everyday and I remember discussing with the children their ‘prior knowledge’ on what they already know about things and making connections with things that are in the story to help them activate and increase their prior knowledge.

Here is a great website I found about Schema Building Activities:
